As much as my mom and dad love me, sometimes they like to get away sans the beej.
Not that I minded at all, as I happily packed my bags for my own trip (well, mom packed for me because if it was up to me I would have simply packed two essential items - my lightsabre and my Obi wan belt. Really what else would I need??).
My March break destination: Grandma's house! I love it so much at Grandma and Papa's that I firmly believe that I got the better deal out of the situation. But more to come on my vacation soon....
Back to the Bahamas.
Their destination was the Sandals Royal Bahamian. This is the view from their hotel room.
And while they did indeed miss me, it really didn't stop them from having a fabulous time.
And what did they do while they were away? Let's see...
At least 50% of their time was spent doing this. Nothing. Glorious Nothing.
Did I mention that 'nothing' also involved having copious amounts of cocktails?
And while enjoying peace and quiet without a rambunctious 6-year-old hanging all over you is quite lovely, there are way too many fun activities at Sandals to ignore
Such as tennis
Or ping-pong
(note: this was also the beginning of our ping-pong training program for the "40 Trip" to Jamaica this fall)
Or a euchre battle at the sing-a-long piano bar
And while slightly clichéd, walks on the beach were also a must
After all, who could resist a beach that look likes this?
And with beaches and oceans, you get waves. And anyone who has read this blog over the years knows how Dad feels about waves..... he likes them. a lot.
However, there is one thing that Dad likes more than waves. And that is taking pictures of mom in her beach gear.
If mom was much younger, better looking and about a foot taller, you would have thought it was a Victoria Secrets photoshoot. As mom likely owns more VS swimwear than all the angels combined
Even though mom had packed amazing VS bikinis and dresses that Dad bought her, her favourite outfit of the trip was this one - which she proudly wore several times during the duration of their stay.
Let's face it, SAMCRO and Sandals aren't exactly a perfect match, which is why mom adored the outfit even more and would frequently give a "What?! You got a problem?!" look at those guests who sneered at the ensemble.
After they quickly looked away upon receiving her glare, mom would then giggle to herself and whisper "Don't worry. I'm not going to go all Adriana on you" as Jax Teller likes to say.
And while the comfy white Sons of Anarchy tank top provided ample amusement, Mom drew the line at wearing it to dinner. After all, it is tradition for mom and dad to get quite gussy-uped for all of their evenings together.
During one of their evenings out, mom and dad met another couple that they ended up spending some time hanging out with. They were recently married and enjoying their honeymoon. Mom and dad really liked them, for two key reasons:
1. The girl's name was 'Leah' (and history shows that mom has an affinity for friends named Leah/Lia') and Leah worked in the credit card business. So, what's not to like?
2. Leah's husband was a real-life Army Ranger who, at 29 years-old, had already completed 15 tours in Afghanistan.
Meeting an Army Ranger was fascinating to both mom and dad. For Dad it was because he loves anything related to military history, and for Mom it was because she loves...... wait for it...... the A-Team!!
It took a little while for him to admit to being a Ranger (maybe that is why we don't have pictures of them) and, as soon as he said it, mom couldn't get this classic movie scene out of her head: I'm a Ranger Baby!
In fact, after a couple cocktails (and when the actual Ranger was not in ear shot) mom would tap her imaginary tattoo and exclaim loudly - "I'm a real soldier. I'm a Ranger baby!" I'm sure it got really old after awhile, but she was still doing her Murdoch impression for Dad on the airplane on the way home.
While hangin with an Army Ranger was cool, they spent most of their time just enjoying each other's company.
In fact, during one of their many conversations over lunch Dad asked mom a question that has now sent them down an interesting new path.....
6 years ago Aunt Nycki handed mom a copy of Twilight and simply said 'you're welcome'. Since that moment mom has not stopped reading (for lack of a better description) cheesy romance novels. She has read so many of them, she can't help but notice all of the patterns of how they are written and what seemingly makes them successful.
As mom was relaying to Dad the plot line of her most recent "romance" novel she was enjoying on this vacation, Dad asked her, "well, what would you write if it was your novel?"
The question gave mom pause, and then she didn't waste any time in figuring out what that would be.
In case you haven't guessed it by this point, mom (and dad too!) are going to write a book. For reals.
On her Sandals stationery mom has already composed an entire storyline, complete with all of her characters. They just need to write it!! How hard can that be.... haha. Anyway, more to come on "the book" in the months to come.
So, in summary, mom and dad had a pretty kick-ass vacation!
They truly were lovin' the Bahamas!
